25 Projects within the East Coast Cluster eligible for Cluster Sequencing Phase-2

  • The Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) named power CCUS, hydrogen and industrial carbon capture projects that met the eligibility criteria for evaluation phase.
  • Projects submitted bids into Phase-2 of the UK Government’s Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) cluster sequencing process in January. A decision on successful projects is expected from May.

28 March 2022 – 25 projects within the East Coast Cluster (ECC) have proceeded to the evaluation stage within Phase-2 of the UK Government’s Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) cluster sequencing process. The projects, covering power, industrial carbon capture (ICC) and hydrogen, were adjudged to have met the first eligibility criteria.

The projects will now be fully evaluated, with a final decision on successful bids expected from May 2022. The news follows the ECC being named in October 2021 as one of the UK’s first two carbon capture, usage and storage clusters following a successful bid in Phase-1 of the process. This is an important step in establishing ECC as the UK’s first net zero industrial cluster by 2040. The cluster is on course for deployment by the mid-2020s.
